These are the paintings of Roger
Sanna,
a figurative experience borne out and
grown at a time when values and beliefs are lived and
re-established, modified and carved by the deep recesses
of the mind.
They symbolise and elevate a form of art that have lived gloriously
in nature since the beginning of time. A time when the artist builds on a stage of
fiction,
floating freely over the representation of
human characteristics and enterprise, animals that seem to have escaped
from another world, landscapes that are unreal and
yet respectful of human symbolism, with their
incandescent mood and unpredictable behaviours. Lines and contours take the
form of an in
tricated web to produce a world that's both
unreachable and yet easy to identify with through the senses of vision
and imagination.
To rebuild the artistic
itinerary of Roger Sanna means removing the veil that blurs the clear image of
the real. A step backwards leads us towards the artist's experiences as a child
in a land that seems alien to his needs and expectations
and of his desire to regurgitate much that's locked in
the inner self in a form that's both creative and
rewarding. The artist can only attempt to convey in
visual form the most secret memories and the deepest thoughts that have shaped
him.
